I would like to go on record as being opposed to the deforestation of the Australian pines at Ft. Taylor. In this case a blanket enforcement of this directive will result in a major loss of shade and beauty. Without the trees it will be a sweltering place that few people will enjoy. It is part of a National Historic Landmark that should remain as it is. The green space is very limited on the island, yet the tall canopy that the pines supply has a feeling of spaciousness and is the closest thing we have to a wooded area. This is an important issue that affects our quality of life in Key West. The park is considered a State treasure for what has been there for years and years. Please help us keep it this way.
